Welcome to the Hans Kegler online Gallery. My work and passion is to strive for capturing subtle Colors and occasional broken brush work to capture the
regions glowing light. The majority of the paintings here depict scenes of
the Santa Monica Mountains near my home, a location ideal for
plein air painting
due to the Mediterranean type - ecosystem. Since the 1890's accomplished
artists such as William Wendt and George Garner Symons along with a few modern day masters have also used these
mountains and its diverse wildlife as subjects for their work. The area
contains twenty-six distinct communities in all, ranging from fresh water
aquatic habitats and coastal lagoons to oak woodlands, valley oak savannas
and chaparral. In addition, this location contains some of the last remaining
California native grasslands.
Discover through the eyes of a plein air artist this beautiful refuge,
a California hidden from the masses.
Started traveling to farther away locations in 2004.
Now combining the small outdoor painted scenes and incorporating
them into larger indoor studio works.
